Big News from Plym!

We’re thrilled to share that, in collaboration with our esteemed colleagues at Design Planet in Shanghai, we’ve wan the tender process for the landmark project of Inter IKEA’s new Shanghai hub! Spanning a massive 11,000 square meters, this venture is set to be one of the largest in Asia, consolidating numerous smaller offices into a grand, unified space.

A New Era for Inter IKEA in Shanghai
Our Shanghai team, steering the project with their renowned expertise, ensures that the day-to-day progress is in capable hands. This new workspace is poised to redefine open-plan design, offering an innovative environment where Inter IKEA’s vision will come to life.
The location couldn’t be more ideal. Nestled beside fellow IKEA brand, Ingka, which has already settled into the neighboring office tower and the giant new IKEA store at the base level, the synergy between these spaces will be unparalleled.

The Journey from Vision to Reality
Rewind to 2018, and the seeds of this colossal project were first sown when IKEA announced its most significant single investment in Shanghai:
“IKEA is going big in China — very big. The Swedish furniture seller will spend 8 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) on a massive land site in Shanghai, marking its biggest investment in a single location ever,” the company said.
Construction was completed in 2023, and the Shanghai Linkong Project now houses IKEA stores as well as eateries and recreation facilities with over 300 tenants, and IKEA office towers with more than 3,000 IKEA personnel.
IKEA’s China president, Anna Pawlak-Kuliga, said the project marks IKEA’s new era in China, and that they are trying to do things they haven’t done in the past 20 years.

Overcoming Challenges and Looking Ahead
Fast forward through the unforeseen challenges of the pandemic and the competitive post-pandemic bidding process, our continuous global collaboration with Inter IKEA placed us in a strong position to take on this ambitious project.
Now, we’re rolling up our sleeves for the monumental tasks ahead: structuring, scheduling, conceptualizing, and drafting the initial layouts. We can’t wait to share more snapshots of our journey so far.
